The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.

Since 2003 AKHS, A is implementing Healthcare services in Bamiyan, Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary Healthcare, Preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. The current working modality and role of AKHS, A in Bamiyan and Badakhshan provinces as BPHS and EPHS implementers. AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition training and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwifery.

AKHS, A tapped into internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary supports to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A scale up AKDN innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission.

Job Descriptions:

Job Description:
Coordinate and supervise Mental Health Services of the Hospital and report to the Clinical manager
on daily basis;
Provide high-quality Psychology mental health specialized clinical services to patients, including
consultation with Physicians in order to meet the medication needs of patients, as required.
Responsible for supervising all day-to-day activities of the Hospital’s Mental Health Services including
individual and group counselling, psychoeducation and awareness to the patients and caregiver’s patient
education, and support for other clinical staff in managing the mental health needs of patients.
Responsible for ensuring adequate coverage of all shifts in OPD and appropriate coverage for IPD
patients as requested by IPD medical Doctors.
Responsible for endorsement of Service duty rosters, leave requests, medical certification for sick
leaves, permissions, etc for Mental Health Services, and communicate the same to the Hospital Manager.
At the request of Clinical Medical Director, attend Doctors’ daily Morning Meetings and weekly grand
round rounds on Thursdays. Arrange competence-based continuing education programs for Mental Health
Services staff, participate in clinical audit, and participate in other clinical quality improvement activities.
Organize and prepare annual performance appraisal of acute Mental Health ward Services Team and
submit the same to the Hospital Manager.
Participate in preparation of monthly activity reports for clinical departments;
Support cost recovery scheme and ambulance referral services with AKHS BHCs;
Support external relations of the hospital working as a team amongst clinical staff;
Any other assignments related to MHPSS ward will be given by medical director, hospital director and
project manager.
Reporting:
Report all MHPSS ward activities to the medical director, hospital director, and the project manager as
well, monthly, quarterly, and annually.
You are to report to the Clinical Manager/ Project Officer who can also assign any other
responsibilities to you in addition to the above prescribed duties.

Job Requirements:

Qualified as a Psychiatrist from a recognized institution/college is preferred.
Medical Doctor and specialization degree in psychiatry
3 years’ work experience in Psychiatry field with certificate.
Knowledge of assessment/Evaluation techniques, monitoring and recording patients' progress.
Good knowledge and skill in clinical psychiatry.
of patient theory, techniques, and equipment.
Ability in counselling and problem-solving problem solving.
Ability to perform patient services and operate equipment
Ability to communicate effectively and appropriate teamwork.
