Job Descriptions:

Purpose of the Role

The Hygiene Promoter is responsible for planning and implementing hygiene promotion and community awareness activities to improve safe hygiene practices, prevent the spread of communicable diseases, and strengthen community knowledge and participation in WASH-related activities. The position will work closely with communities, health facilities, community leaders, CHWs and the project team to promote appropriate hygiene behaviors and support effective implementation of hygiene promotion activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

·       Conduct hygiene promotion sessions and awareness activities for communities, households, schools and other targeted groups as assigned.

·       Promote key hygiene practices, including handwashing at critical times, safe water handling and storage, environmental cleanliness, and appropriate use and maintenance of sanitation facilities.

·       Conduct community mobilization and awareness sessions using culturally appropriate and participatory approaches.

·       Identify hygiene-related knowledge, attitude and practice gaps within target communities and provide appropriate awareness and behavior-change messages.

·       Work closely with community leaders, Shuras, CHWs and other community representatives to strengthen community participation in hygiene promotion activities.

·       Support household and community visits to provide hygiene education and practical demonstrations.

·       Distribute and explain hygiene information, education and communication (IEC) materials where applicable.

·       Encourage communities to identify hygiene and sanitation challenges and participate in developing practical solutions.

·       Support awareness activities related to disease prevention, including prevention of waterborne and other communicable diseases.

·       Coordinate with health facility staff and project teams to ensure consistent hygiene promotion messages and referral of relevant community concerns.

·       Monitor hygiene promotion activities and document attendance, sessions, community feedback and other required information.

·       Collect and report relevant field-level information and contribute to project monitoring and reporting.

·       Provide regular feedback to the line manager regarding community needs, challenges, achievements and gaps.

·       Participate in trainings, meetings, monitoring visits and other project activities as required.

·       Maintain professional conduct, respect community dignity and confidentiality, and follow OPHCD safeguarding, PSEAH and data protection requirements.

·       Perform any other relevant task assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirements:

A. Education:

·       Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Public Health, Environmental Health, WASH, Social Sciences, Education or a related field from a recognized institution.

·       Relevant training in hygiene promotion, WASH, community mobilization or health education is an advantage.

B. Experience:

·       Minimum 3 years in BPHS or non BPHS Government Health Clinic of, hygiene promotion, WASH, health education, community mobilization or related humanitarian/community-based programs.

·       Experience working with communities, health facilities, CHWs, Shuras and local representatives is an advantage.

·       Previous experience with national or international NGOs, UN agencies or health/WASH projects is an advantage.
