Job Descriptions:

 

The Mining Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing the technical and operational aspects of the iron ore mining project. The incumbent will work closely with the Mining Project Manager and Mining Department to plan, supervise, and control mining operations, including exploration, geological assessments, mine planning, extraction, crushing, processing, and production.

The Mining Engineer will ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of iron ore while complying with applicable mining laws, environmental requirements, safety standards, and company policies. The role also includes equipment coordination, production monitoring, technical reporting, workforce support, and collaboration with relevant government authorities and project stakeholders.

 

 

 Key Tasks & Responsibilities

 

Iron Ore Exploration and Geological Assessment

  • Collaborate with the Mining and Geology Departments on iron ore exploration activities.
  • Assist in conducting geological surveys, mapping, sampling, and mineral resource assessments.
  • Support the preparation of exploration reports and geological data.
  • Assist in estimating iron ore reserves and evaluating the economic potential of the mine.
  • Support feasibility studies related to iron ore extraction and processing.
  • Coordinate with geologists to identify ore bodies, assess ore quality, and support mine development planning.
  • Maintain and organize geological and technical records related to mining activities.

 

Mine Planning and Iron Ore Extraction

  • Prepare and organize short-term and long-term mine plans for iron ore extraction.
  • Develop extraction plans considering production targets, ore quality, equipment, and available resources.
  • Manage, supervise, and evaluate mining and extraction operations.
  • Monitor drilling, blasting, excavation, loading, hauling, and ore stockpiling activities, where applicable.
  • Ensure the proper separation of iron ore, waste rock, and overburden.
  • Monitor production volumes, ore recovery, dilution, and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with equipment and maintenance teams to ensure the availability of mining machinery.
  • Identify operational challenges and recommend appropriate technical solutions.
  • Ensure mining activities are conducted according to approved plans and technical standards.

 

Iron Ore Processing and Production

  • Coordinate with the Project Manager and Processing Department in establishing and operating iron ore processing facilities.
  • Assist in planning and supervising crushing, screening, beneficiation, and other applicable processing activities.
  • Monitor the quality and quantity of processed iron ore.
  • Coordinate with laboratory and quality control teams to ensure compliance with required product specifications.
  • Monitor processing efficiency, material recovery, and production losses.
  • Prepare production plans and reports covering extraction, processing, and finished products.
  • Support the optimization of processing operations to improve productivity and reduce operational costs.
  • Coordinate with logistics and marketing teams regarding product storage, transportation, and delivery requirements.

 

Health, Safety, Environment, and Social Affairs

  • Establish and support the implementation of mine-site health and safety procedures.
  • Assist in establishing a Health and Safety Committee and monitor its activities.
  • Ensure compliance with approved safety procedures for mining, drilling, blasting, machinery, and material transportation.
  • Identify workplace hazards and recommend appropriate preventive measures.
  • Support safety training, emergency preparedness, and incident reporting.
  • Assist in preparing environmental management plans and monitoring environmental impacts.
  • Support obtaining and maintaining required environmental permits and approvals from the National Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Monitor dust, noise, waste management, water usage, and other environmental risks associated with mining operations.
  • Support mine rehabilitation and land restoration activities in accordance with approved plans.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to implement the company's social responsibilities.
  • Assist in resolving community concerns and local disputes in coordination with management.

 

Mining Equipment and Operational Resources

  • Assist in identifying and procuring machinery and equipment required for mining operations.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to monitor equipment availability and operational performance.
  • Support the preparation of equipment utilization and maintenance plans.
  • Monitor fuel consumption, equipment productivity, and operational costs.
  • Assist in identifying manpower requirements for mining and processing operations.
  • Coordinate with HR and relevant departments regarding recruitment and workforce planning.
  • Ensure the proper utilization of technical equipment, tools, and operational resources.

 

Project Management and Administration

  • Assist in preparing and reviewing feasibility studies covering project costs, profitability, schedules, and resources.
  • Support the preparation of budgets for mining equipment, processing plants, and technical operations.
  • Prepare regular production, operational, and project progress reports.
  • Monitor and evaluate mining activities to ensure compliance with approved plans and production targets.
  • Track operational costs and identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
  • Ensure mining activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, mining procedures, and approved mining licenses.
  • Coordinate with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, relevant government departments, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Assist in managing subcontractor agreements related to mining and processing operations.
  • Coordinate with the Mining Department and Project Manager on technical and operational matters.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor to support project and company objectives.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant field experience in mining operations, preferably in iron ore mining and processing.
  • Practical knowledge of open-pit mining operations, mine planning, and mineral extraction.
  • Knowledge of iron ore processing, including crushing, screening, and beneficiation, where applicable.
  • Familiarity with geological surveys, mineral resource estimation, and ore quality assessment.
  • Knowledge of mining equipment, production monitoring, and operational planning.
  • Understanding of occupational health, safety, and environmental standards applicable to mining operations.
  • Familiarity with GIS, AutoCAD, mine planning software, or other relevant technical software.
  • Strong technical report writing and data analysis skills.
  • Full proficiency in Dari and Pashto, with a working knowledge of English.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in remote mining locations and challenging field conditions.
  • Ability to identify technical problems and provide practical solutions.
