Job Descriptions:

The Support Group Facilitator is a full-time position responsible for recruiting and supporting participants, facilitating PARSA support groups, and delivering Healthy Afghan Family sessions as assigned. PARSA will provide the required training for all duties. Previous experience or training in this specific work is not required at the time of appointment; however, the Facilitator is required to successfully complete PARSA’s training (conduct of support groups, the Healthy Afghan Family course, PARSA Code of Conduct and the referral procedure, record keeping and reporting) and perform all duties in accordance with approved program guidance, procedures, and materials.

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined within the established line of accountability effectively and satisfactorily. Essential job duties and accountabilities include the following:

·       Delivering assigned support group and Healthy Afghan Family sessions according to the approved schedule, locations, and program guidance.

·       Following the instructions of the line manager regarding assigned communities, groups, sites, and schedules, and obtaining approval before making any changes.

·       Using PARSA-provided training and session materials without unauthorized modification.

·       Immediately reporting any participant safety, protection, or safeguarding concerns to the line manager.

Attending required supervision meetings and participating in relevant coordination, feedback, and follow-up activities.

Accountability 1. Recruitment of Participants:

·       Visit the communities named by the line manager and explain the purpose of the support groups.

·       Meet the elders and other respected persons of the community, and obtain their agreement before participants are invited.

·       Where required, meet the head of the household and obtain his agreement before a member of his family is enrolled.

·       Identify and invite participants according to the criteria given by the line manager.

·       Complete an enrolment form for each participant.

·       Submit the participant list to the line manager for approval before the first session is held.

·       Maintain the agreed number of participants in each group, and inform the line manager if the number falls below it.

       Accountability 2. Conducting Support Groups

·       Conduct the number of sessions assigned each week.

·       Arrange the meeting place before each session and confirm that it is suitable and private.

·       Conduct each session according to the manual provided by PARSA.

·       Record attendance at every session.

·       Follow the progress of participants who are absent, and inform line manager.

·       Refer a participant who requires assistance beyond the group to the line manager.

·       Complete the group at the end of the assigned cycle and report its completion to the line manager. 

       Accountability 3. Conducting Healthy Afghan Family Sessions

·       Conduct Healthy Afghan Family sessions in the communities and on the dates assigned by the line manager.

·       Conduct each session according to the Facilitator Manual provided by PARSA.

·       Issue the Family Handbook to each participant and explain the work to be completed at home before the next session.

·       Begin each session with the work the participants have completed at home.

·       Assist each family to select and begin its family project at the end of the course.

·       Report the completion of each course to the line manager.

Accountability 4. Records and Reports

·       Keep enrolment forms for all participants.

·       Keep an attendance record for every session.

·       Complete the session record after each session.

·       Submit the monthly report to the line manager on the date required.

·       Record every referral made, and the date it was made.

·       Keep all records in good order and hand them to the line manager on request.

Accountability 5. Conduct

·       Keep confidential all matters discussed in a group. Nothing said in a group is repeated outside it.

·       Represent PARSA with dignity in the community at all times.

·       Show respect to every participant, to their families and to the community.

·       Do not give advice on medical, legal or family matters. Refer such matters to the line manager.

·       Do not accept payment, gift or favor from a participant or from a family of a participant.

Accountability 6. Training and Development

·       Attend and complete all training provided by PARSA for this position.

·       Accept observation of his sessions by the line manager, and act on the guidance given.

·       Attend the monthly supervision meeting.

·       Assist in the training of new facilitators when instructed by the line manager.

Job Requirements:

·       Completed Bachelor’s degree in psychology or social work, or equivalent experience, or holds experience accepted by PARSA in its place.

·       Experience of work with community groups. Teaching, health work, literacy work and community mobilization are accepted.

·       Good oral and written communication skills in Dari and the language of the communities of Bamiyan, knowledge of English is not required.

·       Resident in Bamiyan Province, or willing to reside there for the period of the contract.
