Modern Idea Educational Organization for Afghans Development (MIEOAD) is an Afghan organization committed to supporting communities through education, capacity-building, women's and youth empowerment, protection, humanitarian assistance, and sustainable development initiatives. MIEOAD works with communities and relevant stakeholders to deliver inclusive, accountable, and practical programs that respond to local needs.

MIEOAD is seeking a qualified and motivated General Awareness Trainer (Disaster Risk Reduction) to be based in Faryab Province, with travel to designated project locations and districts as required. The trainer will plan and deliver community awareness and practical training on earthquakes, floods, and other relevant natural hazards. The position will contribute to the timely, safe, inclusive, and high-quality implementation of project activities.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Support the planning and implementation of assigned project activities in accordance with approved work plans, organizational policies, technical guidance, and donor requirements.
• Develop clear, practical, and context-specific training modules, session plans, facilitator guides, presentations, workshops, and visual materials on disaster preparedness and risk reduction.
• Adapt training materials to the local context, language, literacy level, age, gender, disability, and specific needs of participants.
• Deliver awareness sessions to communities, schools, organizations, project participants, and other relevant groups on preparing for, responding to, and recovering from earthquakes, floods, and other natural hazards.
• Explain local hazards, risk factors, early-warning information, evacuation procedures, safe meeting points, family emergency plans, and emergency supply kits.
• Facilitate approved practical safety drills, including earthquake actions such as “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” and movement through pre-identified safe routes to higher ground during flood emergencies.
• Ensure that all practical exercises and drills are properly planned, risk-assessed, supervised, culturally appropriate, and accessible to participants.
• Teach participants how to identify local risks and available community resources and how to take safe and practical preparedness measures before an emergency.
• Promote community awareness of early-warning systems, emergency communication channels, evacuation routes, and available humanitarian or government services.
• Use participatory and interactive training methods, including group discussions, demonstrations, role plays, practical exercises, visual aids, questions and answers, and hands-on simulations.
• Coordinate respectfully with community members, local authorities, schools, community committees, project participants, partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Support communities, schools, and local authorities in strengthening disaster-awareness networks and community preparedness arrangements.
• Provide clear and accurate information about project objectives, eligibility criteria, activities, schedules, and available feedback and complaint channels.
• Ensure the meaningful and inclusive participation of women, children, persons with disabilities, vulnerable households, and other potentially marginalized groups.
• Conduct pre- and post-training assessments, collect participant feedback, and evaluate whether key awareness messages have been understood.
• Maintain complete and accurate records, including training reports, attendance sheets, participant information, assessment results, field observations, photographs where authorized, and supporting documents.
• Support monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning activities, including data collection and follow-up with training participants.
• Identify implementation challenges and propose practical solutions to improve the quality, relevance, and accessibility of training activities.
• Promptly report community concerns, protection risks, safeguarding or PSEA issues, fraud concerns, conflicts, or unsafe conditions through the appropriate reporting channels.
• Prepare and submit timely weekly, monthly, and other required activity and progress reports to the designated line manager.
• Follow all MIEOAD policies and procedures related to safeguarding, PSEA, confidentiality, accountability, anti-fraud, health and safety, data protection, and staff conduct.
• Perform other job-related duties assigned by the line manager within the scope of the position.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Ability to explain technical, scientific, and survival-related information in simple, calm, accurate, and easy-to-understand language.
• Good knowledge of multi-hazard disaster preparedness, risk-reduction measures, early-warning systems, emergency response procedures, and recognized safety guidance.
• Experience using adult-learning methods, participatory approaches, practical demonstrations, simulations, and interactive workshops.
• Strong facilitation, public-speaking, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
• Ability to adapt training methods and materials for children, adults, persons with disabilities, and participants with limited literacy.
• Ability to work respectfully with diverse communities and adapt to changing field conditions.
• Commitment to using approved and evidence-based training materials and avoiding unverified or unsafe technical advice.
