Key Responsibilities
Border & Yard Control
• Supervise all cargo movements including but not limited to cross-shifting between containers and between trucks, loading and unloading.
• Verify documentation (CMR, customs manifests, seals) before and after each movement.
• Maintain accurate, real-time records of truck arrivals, loading times, and departures.
Cargo Handling & Safety
• Oversee third-party transporters and crane and forklift operators.
• Inspect packaging and cargo integrity; and report any damage or irregularity immediately.
• Enforce safety standards for cargo and staff.
Process & Compliance
• Implement company SOPs for temperature-controlled, hazardous, and high-value cargo.
• Liaise with customs, border police, and local authorities to clear documentation and resolve on-site issues.
• Conduct random seal checks and initiate corrective action on any discrepancy.
Costing & Financial Reporting
- Prepare border operational financial reports capturing daily spend on trucking, equipment hire, fuel, and customs charges.
- Calculate and validate trucking and border-clearance costs for each shipment, comparing actual spend to budgeted rates.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities in crane hire, temporary storage, and third-party transport contracts.
Reporting & Communication
• Prepare daily operational reports: cargo volumes, transit times, incident logs etc.
• Coordinate with the central operations desks in Kabul for all issues and reporting.
Resource & Vendor Management
• Monitor loaders, crane suppliers, and transport partners for service quality and cost control.
Continuous Improvement
• Recommend process enhancements to reduce border processing time and minimize handling risks.
