Position Title: Maintenance and Biomedical Officer
1. Background
Hospitals rely on properly functioning infrastructure and medical equipment to provide safe and effective healthcare services. To ensure operational continuity, health facilities require qualified personnel responsible for maintenance of hospital buildings, utilities, and biomedical equipment.
The Maintenance and Biomedical Officer support the hospital by ensuring that medical equipment, electrical systems, water supply, and facility infrastructure are properly maintained and functioning according to standards established by the Ministry of Public Health Afghanistan.

The Maintenance and Biomedical Officer reports directly to the Hospital Director / Hospital Administrator.

To ensure proper installation, maintenance, and repair of hospital infrastructure and biomedical equipment to support safe and uninterrupted healthcare services.

5. Key Duties and Responsibilities
5.1 Biomedical Equipment Management
- Install, inspect, and maintain medical equipment used in the hospital.
- Ensure proper functioning of equipment such as patient monitors, sterilizers, laboratory equipment, and diagnostic devices.
- Maintain equipment inventory and service records.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance of biomedical devices.
- Coordinate with suppliers or technicians for major repairs.
5.2 Facility Maintenance
- Monitor and maintain hospital infrastructure including buildings, electrical systems, plumbing, and water supply.
- Ensure proper functioning of hospital utilities such as generators, oxygen systems, and heating or cooling systems.
- Address maintenance issues promptly to prevent disruption of services.
5.3 Equipment Safety and Compliance
- Ensure safe use and operation of medical equipment.
- Monitor compliance with safety standards and guidelines.
- Ensure proper labeling and safe handling of equipment.
5.4 Preventive Maintenance Planning
- Develop and implement routine preventive maintenance schedules.
- Conduct periodic inspections of equipment and hospital facilities.
- Identify potential technical problems and recommend solutions.
5.5 Support to Clinical Departments
- Assist clinical staff with proper use and troubleshooting of medical equipment.
- Provide basic technical guidance to staff regarding equipment handling.
- Ensure availability of essential equipment for hospital services.
5.6 Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain records of equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Prepare monthly maintenance reports for hospital management.
- Track equipment status and report damaged or non-functional equipment.
5.7 Coordination
- Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams for spare parts and equipment.
- Support installation of newly purchased medical equipment.
- Liaise with external technical service providers when required.
