Job Descriptions:

Agriculture/Horticulture Trainer is responsible for providing technical support saplings distribution and agroforestry extension services to farmers and farmers groups and cooperative for the production for handling of high value agriculture and horticulture commodities.  

Responsibilities of the Job:

  • Conduct sustainable land management study and develop action plan on agroforestry interventions and activities accordingly.
  • Provide technical support inputs and agriculture extension services to farmers and cooperatives for the production handling of high value agricultural and horticulture commodities.
  • Train farmers in new agriculture technology and agronomy techniques and methods to enhance productivity in the area.
  • Introduce improved and appropriate irrigated crop production technologies to the farmers and farmers group. These may include the following:
  1. Orchard design and establishment.
  2. Watercourse improvement.
  3. improved field irrigation techniques
  4. Land preparations and pits digging  
  5. Appropriate use of chemical and organic (manure) fertilizers for the newly planted saplings.
  6. Integrated pest management
  7. Water saving techniques/technologies and develop irrigation scheduling
  8. Calculate crop water requirement and irrigation requirement within.
  9. Introduce improved water distribution and allocation methods to the farmers.
  • Support farmers through field visits and trainings.
  • Training of the beneficiaries on saplings.  
  • Lead the development of agricultural technical standards, training manuals and other implementation tools for the development of agriculture.
  • Incorporate marketing linkage strategies to help farmers to connect with local and urban markets.
  • Production methodologies and community based natural resources management.
  • Design develops training manuals, presentations and materials required for the training to the farmers.
  • Ensure close communication and coordination with project team district authorities and community elders and individual beneficiaries through regular visits participation in meeting organize joint field visits.
  • Provide recommendations to the farmers and farmers groups on improving soil fertility irrigated agronomic measures such as raised-bed, fertilizer application rates and methods and water saving for increasing crop production.
  • To establish agroforestry management association based in the criteria.
  • Ability to travel to various districts of Kandahar province.
  • Any other duties assigned and project manager.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture Agronomy, horticulture or agroforestry.
  • At least 3 years of progressive work experience in similar roles in the field of food security and agriculture extension value chain and marketing linkages projects with INGOs or NGOS.
  • Experience in Agriculture marketing and business linkages; delivery of filed level extension activities, organizing training and delivery and training received in related subjects.
  • Experience in developing agriculture/horticulture-based training curricula agriculture value chain marketing linkage and business development.
  • Experience in facilitating agriculture extension methodologies particularly farmers field school and self-help groups with the demonstration of participation in agroforestry development.
  • Understand orchard designing and establishment design layout techniques.
  • Good spoken and written skills in English and Pashto and Dari language and possess good skills in report writing.
  • General relevant computer skills including Microsoft word, excel and power point.

  • Sound knowledge of in agriculture/horticulture.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of farmers and farmers groups.
  • Ability to work and act under pressure and with discretion in multicultural environment.
  • Demonstrate capacity to plan, prioritize and deliver tasks on time to meet goals in a high-pressure environment.
