Terre des hommes Lausanne (Tdh) is a Swiss child welfare foundation, that provides assistance and protection to vulnerable populations worldwide. Tdh has been working in Afghanistan since 1995 and carries out projects related to Child Protection, Mother and Child Health, and Livelihood Programs in Kabul, Kunar & Nangarhar provinces

The Nutrition Counselor is responsible for providing Screening (scale measurement) of children under 5 years of age and PLW  regularly to receive cases of malnutrition. 

• Treating children suffering from severe and moderate acute malnutrition
• Treating the PLW patients from severe and modarte acute malnutrition
• Provide the supplementary food to the children and PLW base on their need
• Complete growth monitoring for children U5 and PLW.
• Refer complicated case of SAM to the advance health facilities in Nanagarhar province

Main responsibilities:

• Facilitating nutrition issues according to the division of time for health education of the mobile health and nutrition team for clients at the village level.
• Registering cases of malnutrition and promoting their treatment
• Distributing nutritional materials according to the national nutrition guidelines
• Regular reporting according to the national nutrition guidelines
• Working jointly with the Nutrition counsellors in serious cases, and other cases that are necessary.
• Regular and accurate care of treating patients based on job responsibility,
• Decent and active participation in nurse-midwifery educations and trainings.
• Performing additional tasks (related to the health center services) is requested by the relevant manager.

Before the examination:

• Checking the cleanliness of the needed materials.
• Preparing materials during work (gloves, sterilizing materials, etc.)
• Regulating the entry of patients based on their priority.
• Providing health instructions to the clients according to the specific time division.

During the examination:

• Giving supplementary information to the patient about his problem.
• Providing information and messages about the use of nutritional substances
• Accurate explanation of the problem to the patient, if necessary, ask the doctor for help.
• Accurate and correct dressing, taking into account the sterilization conditions.
• Schedule a meeting again if necessary.
• Preparing and delivering monthly reports to the relevant supervisor at a certain time.
• Refer complicated cases to doctor or higher levels and follow up of cases,
• Provide weekly and monthly report

• Degree/Diploma in Nursing from well recognized institution
• Minimum three years experience, preferably in a remote site
• Pashto & Dari are essential, English workign ability
• Practical experience in the field of Nutrition.
• Has good knowledge of indicators for and the consequences on type of abuse, exploitation and violence on children.
• Is able to present project health activities concerns verbally and in writing.
• Has good understanding of report writing.
• Be able to communicate national language Pashto and Dari
