We are seeking a highly qualified and proactive Accountant to join our team in a dynamic field office. This role is critical to ensuring the financial integrity, compliance, and operational effectiveness of our programs. The successful candidate will work closely with the Financial Controller and serve as the on-the-ground finance expert, responsible for the full spectrum of accounting activities, from day-to-day transactions to internal audits and donor reporting.

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly qualified and proactive Accountant to join our team in a dynamic field office. This role is critical to ensuring the financial integrity, compliance, and operational effectiveness of our programs. The successful candidate will work closely with the Financial Controller and serve as the on-the-ground finance expert, responsible for the full spectrum of accounting activities, from day-to-day transactions to internal audits and donor reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Accounting & Reporting:

  • Record all day-to-day financial transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and submit the monthly Statement of Functional Expenses and other key financial reports.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations for the field office.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Internal Audit & Compliance:

  • Work closely with the Financial Controller to plan and execute regular internal audits.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all organizational financial policies, donor regulations, and local statutory requirements.
  • Implement and monitor robust internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors in the field location, providing all necessary documentation and support.

Policy & Process Improvement:

  • Actively implement all organizational financial policies and procedures within the field office.
  • Identify areas for improvement in financial systems and processes and propose effective solutions.
  • Lead the development and documentation of field-office-specific finance manuals as needed.

 

 

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a related field.
  • Must be an ACCA member, affiliate, or have completed at least 9 ACCA papers.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 4 years within the non-profit sector.
  • Proven experience in preparing the Statement of Functional Expenses or similar donor-specific financial reports.
  • Solid hands-on experience with internal audits, internal controls, and working with external auditors.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to speak fluently in English.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Mandatory Travel: Must be willing and able to travel frequently within the region as required by project needs.
  • Split-Site Work Arrangement: Must be able to work 3 days per week in our Kabul Office and 3 days per week in our Jalal Abad Office.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
