Job Summary & Purpose:
Community midwives have the requisite knowledge and skills from the social sciences, the public health sector and ethics that form the basis of high quality, culturally relevant, appropriate care for women, their newborns, and their families. Midwives provide high quality, culturally sensitive health education and family planning services in the community in order to promote healthy family life, planned pregnancies and positive parenting.
Midwives provide high-quality antenatal care to maximize the woman’s health during pregnancy, detect early and manage/refer any complications. Midwives provide high quality, culturally sensitive care during labor; conduct a clean, safe delivery; give care to the newborn, and manage/refer emergencies effectively to prevent maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. Midwives participate in the promotion of health and wellness in the community and serve as a link between the community and the health system.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide essential maternal care including antenatal, delivery, and postnatal services to women in remote drought-affected areas.
- Conduct safe, clean deliveries and ensure proper newborn care within the mobile clinic setup.
- Identify and manage common obstetric complications and refer emergency cases following basic emergency obstetric care protocols.
- Deliver primary reproductive health services aligned with BPHS, including family planning counseling and non-surgical contraceptive methods.
- Conduct health education sessions for women and families on pregnancy preparedness, breastfeeding, and maternal-child health.
- Support and supervise community health workers in delivering basic services and follow-up care in target communities.
- Maintain accurate patient records, complete reporting tools, and ensure compliance with infection prevention and MHNT protocols.
- Collaborate with other MHNT staff and refer complex cases to higher-level health facilities; perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
